UD 4. INTRODUCTION.

LANDFORMS AND TERRITORIES OF EUROPE

This unit talks about the characteristics of Europe. We will learn about Europe’s main geographical features and the countries that make up Europe’s territory.

On pages 26 and 27, we will learn about the topography of inland and coastal Europe including its plains, massifs, plateaus and mountain ranges and the fjords, rías and islands that can be found along the European coastline.
On pages 28 and 29, we will learn facts about the hydrography  of Europe, including oceans, rivers, seas, lakes and drainage basins.
Pages 30 and 31 describe the different climate zones found in Europe. The last section of the unit discusses global environment problems, which include climate change, the ozone layer, the greenhouse effect, pollution and overexploitation of natural resources.
At the end of the unit, the Apply your skills! page exploits the content of the unit whilst permitting pupils to practise and develop the basic competencies. There is also a Check what you know! section, which can be used as an evaluation or a homework assignment.
